Governor Greg Abbott has officially called a Special Election for Senate District 9 on November 4, 2025. This follows Senator Kelly Hancock being tapped to serve as Acting Texas Comptroller—leaving an important seat open in the Texas Senate.

Who’s Coming?
Betsy Price
Betsy Price is the longest-serving mayor in Fort Worth’s history, leading the city from 2011 to 2021. She inherited a major budget shortfall and an overburdened pension system, and through disciplined leadership balanced the budget, reformed pensions, and lowered the tax rate without cutting essential services. During her tenure, Fort Worth experienced transformative growth, including projects like Sundance Square Plaza, Dickies Arena, and the Near Southside redevelopment. She also championed TEXRail, “complete streets,” and citywide health initiatives such as FitWorth and Blue Zones. Known for her accessibility, Price launched walking town halls, created the SteerFW young leaders program, and established the Race and Culture Task Force to encourage equity and civic engagement.
Since leaving office, Price embraces a life centered on family, philanthropy, and wellness. She enjoys time with her husband Tom, her children, and grandchildren while continuing to pursue her passion for cycling and community service. In 2025, the Betsy Price Community Center opened, honoring her enduring legacy of leadership in Fort Worth.
John Huffman
John Huffman is a lifelong Texan, attorney, and small business owner with deep roots in North Texas. After earning his bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Baylor University and his law degree from Southern Methodist University, he built a career in business and real estate, founding a successful firm focused on commercial development and property management. John has also devoted more than a decade to public service in Southlake, where he served on the city council before being elected mayor. His tenure included navigating the community through challenges such as Winter Storm Uri, where his steady leadership and hands-on relief efforts earned wide respect. Together with his wife Elizabeth, John has homeschooled their three children, reflecting a family-centered commitment to faith, education, and service.
Leigh Wambsganss
Leigh Wambsganss holds a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Central Oklahoma and an M.A. in Organizational Management from Dallas Baptist University. After beginning her career in television as a news anchor, reporter, and producer, she transitioned into public service and communications—becoming Chief Communications Officer at Patriot Mobile and executive director of its affiliated PAC, Patriot Mobile Action. For over a decade, Leigh has been a strategic force in conservative grassroots organizing throughout North Texas, leading movements like Southlake Families PAC and advocating on issues such as parental rights, school safety, and protecting conservative values in public education. Known for her ability to mobilize voters quickly and decisively, she has helped drive civic engagement and influence in key school board and community races. At home, Leigh and her husband Andy raise their two sons in Southlake, where she remains active in local community boards and church ministries.
