Biography
Jason Charbonnet has served as Justice of the Peace for Precinct 6 in Tarrant County since January 2019, presiding over the Southwest Subcourthouse in Fort Worth. A Fort Worth native, Charbonnet earned an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice and Police Science from Tarrant County College. He was first elected to the position in November 2018, defeating two opponents in the general election after winning a Republican primary runoff, and has been re-elected to subsequent terms. As Justice of the Peace, he handles civil cases with jurisdictional limits up to $20,000, various types of misdemeanor criminal cases, and also serves as an Administrative Hearing Judge.
Prior to his election as Justice of the Peace, Charbonnet served as a police officer with the City of Kennedale, where he built a reputation as a highly-decorated member of the force known for his honesty, trustworthiness, and commitment to excellence. Throughout his law enforcement career, he worked closely with prosecutors in the District Attorney’s office to build solid cases that resulted in convictions of criminals. His depth of legal knowledge and dedication to public safety earned him the endorsement of numerous local officials during his campaign, with supporters noting his qualifications made him one of the most prepared candidates to serve as Justice of the Peace in Tarrant County. Charbonnet took an oath as a police officer to defend and uphold the U.S. Constitution, a commitment he continues to honor in his judicial role.
