Biography

Judge Melody Wilkinson has served the people of Tarrant County as the elected Judge of the 17th District Court since 2009. She is known for her fair and even-handed approach to justice and for operating an efficient courtroom with a consistently low case backlog. Her judicial philosophy emphasizes preparation, professionalism, and respect for all parties who appear before the court.

In addition to her duties on the 17th District Court, Judge Wilkinson currently serves as Tarrant County’s Local Administrative Judge, a role entrusted to her by her judicial colleagues. In this capacity, she works collaboratively with judges across the county to improve court administration, enhance efficiency, and ensure the effective operation of Tarrant County’s judicial system.

Before taking the bench, Judge Wilkinson practiced law for more than two decades in Fort Worth, handling complex civil litigation including business disputes, labor and employment matters, and product liability defense. Her extensive experience as a practicing attorney informs her thoughtful and pragmatic approach to the law.

Judge Wilkinson has also held numerous leadership roles within the legal profession, including serving as President of the Texas Association of District Judges, Chair of the Judicial Section of the State Bar of Texas, President of the Tarrant County Bar Association, and President of the Texas Young Lawyers Association.

She remains committed to the faithful administration of justice and to continuing her service to the citizens of Tarrant County.
