371st District Court Judge

Biography

Judge Ryan Hill has presided over the 371st District Court in Tarrant County since his appointment by Governor Greg Abbott in March 2022. A Fort Worth resident, Judge Hill earned his Bachelor of Music Education from Baylor University and his Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University School of Law. He is Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a distinction that recognizes his expertise in this complex area of the law. Prior to his appointment to the bench, he served as Chief Prosecutor of Criminal Mental Health Crossover for the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, where he developed specialized expertise in cases involving defendants with mental health issues navigating the criminal justice system.

Judge Hill brought more than thirteen years of criminal prosecution experience to the bench, having previously served as an Assistant District Attorney for the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office and as an Assistant County Attorney for the Hood County Attorney’s Office. Throughout his prosecutorial career, he handled thousands of criminal cases and participated in over a decade of felony jury trials, taking on some of society’s most dangerous criminals including gang members, child predators, and murderers. He serves as Faculty Adviser for the Texas District and County Attorneys Association and works as a guest speaker educating law enforcement and attorneys across Texas on criminal law. Beyond his legal career, Judge Hill is actively involved in the community as a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Federalist Society, the Tarrant County Bar Association, the Eldon B. Mahon Inn of Court, the Rotary Club of Fort Worth, and the Colleyville Lions Club. He also volunteers as a youth sports coach.
