Who’s Coming?
Representative John McQueeny (District 97)
John McQueeney, a Republican, began serving the 97th District in the Texas House of Representatives after winning the 2024 election; he officially assumed office on January 14, 2025.
A Fort Worth native and proud alumnus of Texas Christian University, McQueeney earned his bachelor’s degree from TCU’s Neeley School of Business.
A dynamic business leader, he launched his career at RadioShack, advancing from leasing representative to Director of Leasing, overseeing lease renewals and expansion strategies across the U.S. and Canada. He later became a McDonald’s franchisee, expanding operations from San Antonio to his hometown of Fort Worth. His entrepreneurial journey continued with logistics, growing a FedEx contracting fleet from four to 50 trucks, and further diversifying as an advisory director at Austin County State Bank and a franchise owner of Chicken Express.
He and his wife, Katie, are active members of St. Andrews Catholic Church.
Committee Assignments
In the 89th Legislative Session, McQueeney serves on several pivotal committees:
Licensing & Administrative Procedures
State Affairs, including its Subcommittee on Telecommunications & Broadband
Select Committee on Congressional Redistricting.
Key Legislation
McQueeney is the author of HB 4535, a bill requiring written informed consent prior to administering COVID‑19 vaccines—especially for minors or individuals lacking capacity—and mandating a standardized information sheet from the Department of State Health Services. It underscores individual autonomy and informed healthcare decisions.
Representative Charlie Geren (District 99)
A long-serving legislator, Charlie Geren graduated with a BBA from Southern Methodist University and has represented Fort Worth’s District 99 (formerly District 89) since 2001. His professional background spans commercial real estate (Kelly, Geren & Searcy), hospitality (Railhead Smokehouse), ranch operations (LGS Godly Ranch Corp.), and service as a U.S. Marshals Deputy. He’s also known for his leadership in community organizations.
Rep. Geren is married to Mindy Ellmer, who is actively involved in Texas politics and community life as a respected consultant and advocate. She has represented organizations such as the Texas Restaurant Association, AT&T, and Walmart, and is well known for her leadership in political campaigns and her ability to build strong networks of support. Together, they remain deeply engaged in both Austin and Fort Worth, contributing to the civic and cultural fabric of the state.
Civic Involvement and Volunteerism
Board & Civic Leadership: Geren is actively involved in numerous civic organizations. His longstanding service includes leadership roles with the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo—including Vice President and committee co-chair—and as a trustee of Texas Christian University. His family legacies continue through the foundation and campus development.
Community Engagement: Charlie’s influence extends across local philanthropy and civic life—participating in ranching events, hosting grand entries at the Stock Show, and maintaining a hands-on presence at his restaurant and community functions. One colleague remarked: “When Charlie volunteers for something, his name doesn’t just go on the letterhead.”
